The Montreal Comic Arts Festival (MCAF) is an NPO founded in 2011. Its annual event of the same name is the only bilingual, free event with the primary mandate of promoting comics and the artists who create them. This not-to-be-missed comics event attracted over 95,000 people in 2024.
The 13th MCAF took place from May 24 to 26, 2024, on a pedestrianized Saint-Denis street between Gilford and Roy. More than 300 comic artists from here and abroad were expected, and a varied program of over 60 free activities has been offered.
Year-round, MCAF organizes activities that contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge about the 9th art, for both professionals and readers.
Some good reasons to donate to the festival
SUPPORTING MCAF means, first and foremost, subscribing to its mission of promoting comics, books and reading to a variety of audiences, but it also means:
- To ensure the development and continuity of a major literary celebration. MCAF brings together more than 300 comic artists and some 50 publishing houses from here and abroad, here, in Montreal.
- To offer a program of over 60 free activities around reading and creating. MCAF believes in the importance of making culture accessible to all, and offers an outdoor festival with round tables, creative workshops, live drawing and free exhibitions.
- To contribute to improving the socio-professional conditions of comic strip artists. MCAF offers them an incredible opportunity to reach out and meet their audiences, paid participation in programming, networking activities and free training.
- To encourage the (re)discovery and enjoyment of reading at all ages. Reading not only promotes academic success, but also reduces the risk of developing cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.
