The end is nigh! At a moment when climate change, economic chaos, political upheavals, and global epidemics increasingly dominate the news, it can feel like the world is truly on a knife’s edge. And yet even in the face of these very real threats, fictional apocalypses hold an ever-increasing attraction for us. From ecological collapse to violent conflicts, graphic novels provide a dark window into the looming destruction of our society. Why are creators compelled to show us dark visions of the end times, and why can’t we look away? Do these terrifying scenarios also inevitably hold the seeds of a brave new world? This provocative discussion with the creators Helge Reumann (Kilmotor), Jenna Cha (The Sickness), and Sofia Alarcon (Endsickness) will explore the strange beauty of the end of days.
