About Maya McKibbin

Maya McKibbin is a Two-Spirits multidisciplinary visual artist living on the unceded traditional territories in BC. They are Irish-settler and Ojibwe with roots in White Earth Nation with family diaspora from Zacatecas in Mexico. They grew up in ch'atlich and later in England. Maya has Art Directed and storyboarded for Inkwo For When The Starving Return directed by Amanda Strong which was selected for Sundance Film Festival, worked in Indie Games with BAFTA award winning studio Playdead games and Illustrating kids lit, including Swift Fox All Along written by Rebecca Thomas, which was nominated for a Governor General’s Literary Award, If You Were Here written by Kath Stinson and The Song That Called Them Home and Little Shoes both written by David A. Robertson. Maya’s work has also appeared in graphic novels and comics, including Image Comics’s The Silver Coin #5, Salmon Run, Balustrad Press; Shades of Fear and Asparagus Magazine. Their work centers the supernatural , nostalgia, and the wonder and grief of constant change and being uprooted, in the present and generationally.
