Stanley Péan, born in Port-au-Prince and raised in Jonquière, lives in Montreal, where he worked as a cultural journalist, literary translator, television scriptwriter, and where he has been hosting, since 2009, Quand le jazz est là, a daily show broadcast on ICI Musique (Radio-Canada). He is the author of around thirty books belonging to different genres, including Crépusculaires and Cartes postales d’outre-monde, both published by Éditions Mains Libres. His stories are appreciated by readers and critics alike: Zombi Blues was a great success in bookstores; Le temps s’enfuit won the M. Christie Prize (best novel for young people) and Bizango was shortlisted for the Oceans Prize. He is the winner of the 2020 Victor-Barbeau prize awarded by the Académie des lettres du Québec for his essay De préférence la nuit, as well as the winner of the 2022 Bruce-Lundvall Award, awarded by the Montreal International Jazz Festival ; it is given annually to an individual who has left a mark on the world of jazz or contributed to the development of the music through the media, the concert or record industries.
