About Sébastien Gannat
In 2007, six years after moving to La Réunion island, Sébastien Gannat published his first comic book, Goyave de France, followed by Goyave 2 France (Éditions Orphie). These two albums were inspired by his experiences as a metropolitan Frenchman arriving in a Reunionese universe, far removed from his cultural and professional references. Later, inspired by his children, he published his first children's book Les vacances de Théo le baleineau (Éditions Orphie) in 2008, which will be followed by five other episodes. In 2013, he illustrated a children's book written by Sabine Thirel, Zidor l’Endormi et la kayamb magique, followed in 2021 by Zidor l’Endormi et le réveil du volcan (Éditions Orphie). Taking a new turn with Éditions du Cyclone, he illustrates Patrick Durville's novels Pirate de Bourbon (2017), Faka le fugitif (2018), Le forban noir (2020) and Atao – La mémoire des hommes (2022). In 2014, fascinated by the character of Alain Bombard, he produced L’Hérétique (Des Bulles dans l'Océan), a comic book adaptation of Naufragé volontaire. The album recounts how Dr. Bombard, a modern-day hero, crosses the Atlantic without food or drinking water, laying the foundations for survival at sea. In 2019, still on the theme of survival, he adapts into comics the novel Le Roi du Lys (Des Bulles dans l'Océan), written by Patrick Durville. In 2022, he worked for scriptwriter Patrice Bavoillot on the comic book La chasse à l’ours est ouverte (Des Bulles dans l'Océan), recounting the love story between an Italian man and an woman from Aigues-Mortes against the backdrop of the popular lynching that took place in 1893. Never abandoning his favorite cetacean, he and Annabelle Gervais published a new version of Théo le baleineau in 2022: La bouteille infernale! (Éditions Orphie).
