Julien Poitras was born in a modest rural environment in Baie Sainte-Catherine, Charlevoix. A first-generation academic, he is trained both in visual arts and medicine. During his art training, he focused more on drawing and painting. While in medicine, he focused on the practice of emergency medicine, prehospital medicine, and hyperbaric and diving medicine. He acquired skills in desktop publishing as an editor for medical journals and, over the years, developed expertise in comic book publishing. In 2025, he combines the roles of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval, emergency physician at the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis University Hospital Center, comic book artist, and editor, proofreader and graphic designer for Moelle Graphik, a small publishing house located in Québec City.
