Born in Rouyn-Noranda, Valérie Plante studied anthropology and museology, then worked in the community and cultural sectors, before becoming a leading figure on the Quebec political scene. Elected councillor of the Ville-Marie borough in 2013, she made history in 2017 by becoming the first woman to be elected mayor of Montreal. Re-elected in 2021, she continues to focus on the common good and a city on a human scale.
