Children’s Comics Are On The Rise
At this year’s Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême, a delegation of some 20 creators and 11 publishing houses from Quebec was there to represent our province’s comic arts. The focus was on youth comics, with a dedicated space and activities presented in the Quartier Jeunesse, thanks to the support of SODEC and CALQ.
There’s a lot to be proud of: Quebec’s children’s comics scene is rich in both visual styles and subject matter. Many publishers produce books that encourage learning while having fun, whether in the form of documentaries or simply on topics that encourage reflection.
Comic books can play an essential role in a young person’s cultural development. They are often their first contact with reading, captivating their imagination and nurturing their creativity. At a time when we’re all drawn to our screens, the relationship with books deserves to be celebrated and encouraged, and our local comic artists have some great offerings for you.
Book your weekend from May 23 to 25 for a family outing full of discovery and fun!
